We’ll take a tour of the city this morning, before making our way to the pier to board our ship and sailing towards Maine.

Today, it’s a quirky city with a lively arts scene, striking sights and good pubs serving up folk music.<br/>Maybe wander along the 4km seafront boardwalk to appreciate its location, or you might like to join an excursion to perhaps one of the most charming villages close by, Peggy’s Cove.

From Sydney you can explore Cape Breton’s many natural wonders, including the scenic drive known as the Cabot Trail. Or simply explore the city itself - it’s a pleasure to wander through the mix of colourful-clad buildings. Learn about Cape Breton’s industrial past at the underground Miner’s Museum. Or, near the harbour you’ll find craft shops and can pose for a photo by the world’s largest fiddle!

As Canada’s smallest province, Prince Edward Island is everything you expect maritime Canada to be. Grassy bluffs swaying in the breeze and miles of beaches punctuated by striped lighthouses. Charlottetown is the island’s modest capital and its streets are lined with redbrick Victorian houses and buildings and lots of leafy parkland. If you wander through the old part of town you’ll come across museums, the impressive mock-Gothic cathedral and plenty of cute eateries.<br/>You might like to book an excursion to visit the house and farm that inspired the beloved novel ‘Anne of Green Gables’; take a panoramic island drive; or step back in time with a visit to one of the island’s authentic lighthouses.

Location: Gulf of St Lawrence

The Gulf of St Lawrence has a coastline interspersed with centuries-old fishing villages, anchored to the water by iconic lighthouses - an ode to the area’s seafaring past. Some are still in operation today, some are shuttered and crumbling, and some have been developed into maritime museums.<br/>But you’ll need to look deeper to find today’s highlights. 200 miles of the river is known as the whale route and 13 resident species call these waters home, including blue, beluga and right whales. Keep your camera at the ready to catch a souvenir photo of a whale steaming through the waves.

A day of scenic cruising of the St Lawrence River. The river was a major entry point for exploring North America, and during the Seven Years' War, the British navigated to Québec City to defeat the French at the Plains of Abraham.

This morning we disembark and then take in some of Québec City’s highlights on a guided sightseeing tour. Old Québec is a UNESCO World Heritage treasure and the grand gates of the walled city open up onto picturesque cobblestone streets. There is free time for lunch, and then we transfer to Montréal in the afternoon.

This morning, we'll enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Montréal. Montréal is one-part Canadian charm, one-part French heart. The result is a thriving metropolis where old meets new. You’ll see 18th-century façades and heritage churches mixed in with glamorous shopfronts. <br/>There is free time for lunch, then we cross over into Ontario and the city of Ottawa, where we’ll get our bearings on a sightseeing tour. We’ll see the parliament buildings, picturesque parks and UNESCO-listed canals that interlink Ottawa and Kingston.

Canada’s capital city is dominated by its political centrepiece, the Gothic Parliament building overlooking the Ottawa River below. There are world-class museums, parks, gardens and wide-open natural landscapes and in the autumn vibrant leaves line the streets. Today is free for you to make your own discoveries in this world-class city. We love wandering along the Rideau Canal as it winds through the downtown.

We drive towards Kingston, stopping en route to experience a spectacular archipelago made up of over 1,800 picturesque islands straddling the Canadian and US border. Once the mighty peaks of ancient mountains, they give the area a mystical feeling. These evergreen jewels range in size, some house opulent 19th-century summer mansions, some just big enough to host a few trees. The famous Boldt Castle, Zavikon Island, and Millionaire’s Row are only a taste of the adventure on this afternoon’s boat cruise in the heart of the Thousand Islands.<br/>We’ll then continue on to Kingston for the evening, the one-time Canadian capital. With a slew of refined Victorian mansions and limestone architecture, the city has retained a real historical charm which is a pleasure to explore.

Sweeping expanses of fragrant lavender fields, windswept shorelines and rural rolling hills dotted with wineries. People come to Prince Edward County for the peace, tranquillity and fine food and wine. The area is a hub for wine production and we’ll stop by a local winery at lunchtime for a tour and tasting.<br/>We then continue to Toronto.

This morning, we’ll get to know the bright and bustling city of Toronto on a guided tour. Together we’ll explore everything from the restored 19th-century buildings to the glistening skyscrapers. Union Square, the CN Tower, and Union Station are just some of the famed stops. The afternoon is free.

Location: Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Toronto

We’ll make our way to the wonder of nature, Niagara Falls, where we'll have the chance to see the spectacle of the Falls up close and witness more than 3,000 tons of water tumbling over the Falls each second. Plumes of mist rise for hundreds of metres, engulfing anyone who approaches.<br/>We then head to Niagara-on-the-Lake, one of the best-preserved 19th-century towns in North America. It’s a pleasure to wander along the tree-lined boulevards, through sweeping parkland or browse the quaint antique shops, before heading back to Toronto.
