Travelling to Europe
Rules may have changed since you last travelled to European Union countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The following are useful guidelines which will help you prepare for your next adventure. You do require government issued passport to travel.


Names - It is very important that all passenger names are exactly as per your passport although we do not require middle names.


Passport - Your passport must meet two requirements to travel to an EU country and to Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. It must be: Less than 10 years old on the day you return home (please check the "date of issue") and valid for at least 3 months after the day you return home (please check the "expiry date").


Visa - You do not need a visa for short trips to most EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. You’ll be able to stay for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period.


European Entry/Exit Scheme (EES) - EES is the new electronic entry/exit system for European countries which will replace the physical stamping of your passport. The expected date for its introduction is 10 November 2024. From this date, it means that when you go through passport control on arrival, you will need to produce your passport for checking as you do now, but also have your photograph taken and fingerprints scanned. The system will register your entry on arrival and your exit when departing. You will only need to do this on your first entry into Europe after the scheme starts.


Please note: Irish passport holders or British Passport holders with an EU residency are currently excluded. For those travelling via Eurostar, there is a dual British and French/Belgian) border in operational at St Pancras International. Therefore the EES system will be in place at the station, you will not need to be checked again on arrival at the other side. For further information please visit the ABTA website here.European Travel Information & Authorisation System (ETIAS) - Due to commence in 2025, all citizens of the United Kingdom will require a ETIAS electronic form completed prior to their arrival into the EU and Schengen member countries. The cost for this travel authorisation will be €7.00 per person with exceptions for under 18’s and over 70’s. The latest information and further details can be found at www.etias.com.
Hotel transfer times
The transfer time from Ljubljana airport to your hotel is approximately 1 hour. From Venice airport to your hotel, the journey is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Luggage allowance
You are permitted to take one suitcase per person on the aircraft, which should not exceed 23kg.
Special requirements
If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.
Disabled access
The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made. In many developing countries access is sometimes not as easy as at home. Should you have walking difficulties, getting around monuments and attractions may be harder and, in some cases, impossible. Should you have any concerns whatsoever please do contact us prior to travel.
Itinerary changes
Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.
Changes to your hotels
Should circumstances require, we reserve the right to accommodate you in alternative hotels, of a similar standard, nearby. Full details of your hotels will be sent with your Final Travel Documents.
Optional Excursion
Optional excursion to the Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle is not included.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is not included and should be arranged separately.
ETIAS Travel Authorisation
ETIAS travel authorisation, required from 2025, is not included and must be obtained separately.

After a brief introduction from your tour manager, visit the local shops or enjoy views of Ljubljana Castle. Next, walk along the Ljubljanica River, admiring the imposing facades of its pretty baroque bridges and the city’s ornate riverside churches as you go, ahead of a stop at the market-laden Breg Embankment.<br/><br/><br/>Known for its independent stores and communal atmosphere, Breg is a promenade, which welcomes a delightful festive market each winter. Soak up the Christmas cheer with time to explore the stalls, see Ljubljanica’s glittering lights and warm yourself with some mulled wine before heading back to the hotel for dinner.

It’s Christmas Eve and you’ll crown the run-up to the big day with a visit to scenic Bled. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and admire the scenery as you make the journey west.<br/><br/><br/>Upon arrival in Bled, set on the banks of its famous lake, make the most of the town’s ‘winter fairytale’ celebrations. Join your tour manager for a walk around the festival’s delightful Christmas markets, browse the artisan stalls for the perfect souvenir, or have a bite of an authentic Slovenian potica (a festive cake with a sweet walnut filling). Before you head back to the hotel, admire idyllic Lake Bled, with the Church of the Assumption of Mary at its centre, under the winter lights.<br/><br/><br/>Back at the hotel, sit down to a traditional Christmas dinner and wind down at leisure. Later tonight, you can join your tour manager for a visit to a local church for a Slovenian midnight mass. Mark Boxing Day with another day at leisure in Kranjska Gora, perhaps making the most of the town’s wintry alpine scenery with a walk along its mountain paths before warming up in the sauna.<br/><br/><br/>If you’d prefer a little more excitement, you can also join an optional excursion to the Postojna Caves, a sprawling 24-kilometre network of tunnels which have been formed over the centuries by flowing water. Explore the passages aboard a unique subterranean railway and keep an eye out for the intriguing 'baby dragons’ (cave-dwelling salamanders) that live within. On your underground adventure, you’ll pass ‘Brilliant’, an impressive five-metre-tall limestone stalagmite, as well as several secluded lakes and breath-taking rock features.<br/><br/><br/>Returning to the surface, the excursion will continue north to the imposing Predjama Castle, a Renaissance estate positioned within a sheer rockface. Officially named the world’s longest cave castle, this spectacular building became a symbol of Slovenian defiance after it withstood a siege from the armies of the Holy Roman Empire. Explore its ornate interiors, learn about its notorious baron, Erazem of Predjama, who led vital raids through the castle’s hidden tunnels, and discover the sprawling cave system below.<br/><br/><br/>Bring your final day in Slovenia to an end with a special farewell dinner with your new-found friends.

Your health and safety are pivotal to our operations, and every customer travelling on a tour with us must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Fully vaccinated means that you have had the full course of an approved vaccine a minimum of 14 days prior to your holiday. On the second day, after breakfast at your hotel, you will tour the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, which will be decorated for Christmas. You will explore the city's ornate old town, visit local shops, enjoy views of Ljubljana Castle, and walk along the Ljubljanica River. The day includes a stop at the Breg Embankment, known for its festive market, where you can enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and some mulled wine before returning to the hotel for dinner.
